Houston, TX, October 2, 2008 – Today the U.S. Department of Energy awarded Tarkett Commercial Tile with an Energy Saver Award at the World Energy Engineering Congress in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes the company’s reduction of energy usage at its manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas. Energy Saver Awards are bestowed upon manufacturers who achieve more than 75,000 MMBtu total energy savings or more than 7.5% total energy savings and reporting their progress on schedule.
“We have taken major steps to implement modifications that will reduce our electrical and natural gas usage,” said Gilles de Beaumont, president for Tarkett Commercial Tile. “Our continuous improvement team has identified and helped initiate a number of energy reduction solutions. We are very pleased at our success in helping reduce the nation’s carbon footprint.”
Tarkett Commercial Tile worked with a DOE Energy Expert to assess key industrial process systems and identify cost-saving opportunities. By implementing the recommended actions, Tarkett Commercial Tile is reducing our nation’s energy use and shrinking our carbon footprint.
About Save Energy Now
Tarkett Commercial Tile completed a Save Energy Now energy assessment with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Industrial Technologies Program (ITP) in 2007. Save Energy Now is a national initiative to drive a 25% reduction in industrial energy intensity in 10 years. Industrial companies can participate in no-cost energy assessments and utilize ITP resources to reduce energy use while increasing profits. Save Energy Now assessments focus primarily on such energy-intensive systems as process heating, steam, pumps, fans, and compressed air.
